Jobs to Be Done

Report

This template combines 2 highly used methods of unpacking various Jobs to Be Done. It utilizes a combination of Bob Moesta's Four Fources followed by Jim Kalbach's Job Hierarchies. This template will help you collaborate better with your teams to synthesize insights and generate jobs that will help you unlock opportunities at various levels, from strategic to tactical.

Instructions:

Part 1

1. Review your JTBD interview notes and begin to distill possible forces from the quotes. Use green for the push and pull. Use purple for the habit and anxiety (30 mins)

Part 2

  1. Map the Jobs: Organise the jobs according to their hierarchy. Some may be more aspirational (typically emotional or social), while others may be micro jobs (more functional and task-oriented).

  2. Replace the Example: Swap out the example post-its with your own. You can assign multiple jobs to each stage for now. (30mins)

The Power of the Job Hierarchy:

  1. Ask “How” to explore deeper and uncover innovation opportunities by breaking jobs into smaller, actionable steps.

  2. Ask “Why” to climb the ladder and identify broader, strategic insights.
