Methods Library

For each design method you'll discover:

  1. What it is

  2. How to use it

  3. When to use it

  4. Pro tips

  5. Resources to go further (templates, videos, articles)

Each design method is a Miro card

The template is built around Miro card that you can easily drag and drop and that have special project management features. For example you can easily add the following data to each of the design method:

  • Due dates

  • Assign who works on it

  • Status (To do, Doing, Done)

  • Tags

As the design methods are built with Miro cards, it means that you can adapt everything and add your own information in them. For example you can add:

  • Links to prototypes, interview notes, presentations and other documents

  • Personal learnings of what works and what doesn't when it comes to use this method to help you get more efficient the next time you re-use this method.

  • Checklists of processes that you want to follow each time you use a specific design method

With 30 video explanations

30 of the 50 design methods have been created by students of the Spatial Design program of the HSLU. In each of these 30 cards the students have created a 3-5 minute visual explanation of the design method.

Method mix Canvases

In this template you'll also find 3 canvases that help you to plan your next design project.

Timeline Canvas

▶️ Watch the demo video (2 minutes)

A canvas where you can drag and drop your design methods cards from the library based on the goal that you want to achieve with your design project.

This canvas helps you to do two things:

  1. Plan with the end in mind, by starting to explore the goal you want to achieve and then sorting it out into what you have to do today, this week, next months and so on.

  2. Work in a healthy and sustainable way, by forcing you to have only one thing you promise to do for each time period and then have the rest in a "I might do" section

Ping-Pong Canvas

▶️ Watch the demo video (1 minute)

A canvas where you can drag and drop your design methods cards from the library based on the different moments of the design process.

This canvas helps you to do two things:

  1. Verify that you have a good balance, by showing you if you put too much focus on one phase of the design process.

  2. Keep you in a get shit done mode, by showing you that for each part of the design process you always can in parralel prototype and test something.

Impact First Canvas

▶️ Watch the demo video (2 minutes)

A canvas where you can drag and drop your design methods cards from the library based on efficency so that you can find the methods that will have the highest impact for the lowest effort for your design project.

This canvas helps you to do two things:

  1. Select your design methods by using a matrix that uses the effort versus impact criteria and that then reveals to you what you should do with each quadrant.

  2. Work in a healthy and sustainable way, by forcing you to select even less methods than what you have initially selected.
