BBQ-Themed Retrospective – Instructions
This retrospective is a bit different from the usual format – we’re going BBQ-style!
I came up with this theme because I personally love barbecuing, and I thought it would be a fun and engaging way to reflect on our past sprint.
🔥 1. Icebreaker (10 minutes)
To get things started, we’ll begin with a light icebreaker.
Each team member creates a card with their name and chooses an image that represents how they feel when looking back at the last sprint. Each image is BBQ-related. The focus isn’t on the picture itself, but on the story behind it. Take a few minutes to explain why you chose that image.
🥩 2. Main Retrospective (40 minutes)
We’ll now reflect on the sprint using a BBQ-inspired framework:
What went well?
Represented by a perfectly grilled steak.
→ What are we proud of? What should we continue doing?
What could have gone better?
Represented by an undercooked steak.
→ What needs improvement? Where did things fall short?
What should we stop doing?
Represented by a burned chicken.
→ What’s no longer serving us or causing issues?
Team members can add cards under each category, and we’ll take time to discuss them thoroughly.
✅ 3. Wrap-Up & Action Items (10 minutes)
If a lot of input was shared in the previous step, let’s vote to identify the top 3 items we want to focus on.
From there, we’ll create action-oriented cards and assign clear owners to each one, so we can follow up in the next sprint.
