What is Fear Setting?

Fear Setting is a structured reflection exercise to help you make decisions when fear is holding you back and distorting your thinking. It was popularised by Tim Ferris.

This approach is a good alternative to traditional goal setting.

Why use Fear Setting?

"We suffer more often in imagination than in reality.” Stoic philosopher Seneca the Younger.

When making big decisions it's often our fears that hold us back. This exercise allows you to recognise those fears. It often helps realise that these fears or not as bad as they seem.

How to use Fear Setting?

Fear-Setting has three steps, each with a different purpose:

Put your fears under a microscope
Consider the potential benefits of taking action
Consider the consequences of inaction

Fear Setting can be done individually or works as a great team workshop exercise to understand the fears of a team.
