The Work Energy Map helps teams identify what energizes and drains their flow of work. With this visual tool, teams can uncover blockers, amplify strengths, and design quick wins to improve productivity and morale. Ideal for workshops or retrospectives.

A Way to Run the Workshop (with Example Timings):

  1. Set the Context (10 mins):

    • Explain the goal of the session:

      • Uncover what energizes and drains the end-to-end flow of work

      • Brainstorm actions to improve flow and team energy.

    • Share how the outcomes will inform next steps.

  2. Brainstorm Energisers & Drains (15 mins):

    • Have participants work individually or in small groups to:

      • Add sticky notes to the Energisers and Drains zones.

      • Focus on specific examples from their daily work.

  3. Cluster and Discuss (10 mins):

    • Group similar notes into themes.

    • Discuss the impact of each theme on flow.

    • Use voting dots to prioritize the top energizers and most critical drains.

  4. Generate Catalysts (20 mins):

    • Shift focus to the “Flow Catalysts” area to:

      • Amplify energizers (e.g., scale automation).

      • Reduce drains (e.g., remove blockers, improve clarity).

  5. Create Quick Wins (10 mins):

    • Identify 1–3 immediate actions from the “Catalysts” ideas that can make a big difference quickly.

  6. Close with Commitment (10 mins):

    • Summarise the session's top insights and actions.

    • Ensure each action has clear ownership and next steps.

    • Thank participants for their contributions and energy!
