WHY WE MADE THIS

* To build trust, particularly in a new team.

* To help break tension in teams ( by moving away from who is 'right' or 'wrong' and move towards a common understanding - that everyone's preferences, ways of working styles and strengths are different.)

WHAT THIS IS

A gamified introduction

WHO IS IT FOR

For teams or for groups who will need to work together.

It’s particularly useful for remote or hybrid teams; so expectations can be set. This way, differences in ways of working approaches and preferences are understood and not mistaken as erroneous or a reason for a lack of trust between one another.

HOW TO USE IT

Start with the ‘gameboard’ in the middle. Follow the instructions, below.

INSTRUCTIONS

PART ONE

< note to facilitator >

This part ONE can be done asynchronously before the call.

We recommend you start with the most 'open' and 'honest' person - either you set the tone and start with an example you create on your own; or intentionally pick someone else from this group who you think will help with this.

< instructions >

ONE. Find your own 'board' (set of 9 squares with 9 questions on them..

TWO. Add your name to your board.

THREE. Give each other 10 minutes to fill out each section.*

(don't worry - it doesn't have to be perfect. Try and answer each question as best as you can)..

PART TWO

< note to facilitator >

For part TWO you could keep going until you're done or do this 'gradually'...

i.e. laying a round at the start of every big team meeting or workshop you have for a few weeks or months.

< instructions cont'd >

FOUR. RETURN to this team board, here -->

FIVE. Take turns:

i. picking up 'tile / card' with a QUESTION MARK ' ? ' on it ;

ii. moving it to the side

iii. to reveal and read out the question that sits behind it

iv. and listen to everyone's answers (*from their board that they filled in in 'part one')..

< note to facilitator > < SO WHAT !? > If you or your team are left with this question. This is a great opener into a team ways of working session or re-think.

‘SO WHAT?’:

Here are some questions you could ask next:

Q. How could you use this to work better as a team?

Q. How could you use this to make your meetings work better - for everyone?

Q. What challenges do you face as a team? Could this information help inform how you tackle this going forward?

Q. One month after having this discussion, what has changed?

Equally, you can move onto the hybrid team kick-off workshops we’ve created as a part 2 and 3 for this workshop.
