Transform Awkward Silence into Connection with "Team Building Truth or Dare"
Are your remote team meetings suffering from awkward silences and disengaged cameras? Break down virtual barriers and inject energy into your team with the Team Building Truth or Dare template—a structured, safe, and fun way to foster vulnerability and build genuine connections.
About this template
This template re-imagines the classic party game for a professional virtual setting. It moves beyond bland icebreakers to create an environment where team members can share nostalgic stories, reflect on work habits, and perform lighthearted antics. The core philosophy is that connection requires psychological safety. This board is built on that principle, using a "Side Quest" mechanic that allows any player to opt-out of a prompt by completing a safe, pre-defined alternative—like posting a GIF or giving a compliment. This ensures the activity builds trust and bonds without ever feeling pressured or unprofessional.
Who is this for?
This template is the perfect tool for:
Scrum Masters, Team Leads, & Managers wanting to improve cohesion and trust within a distributed team.
Remote Teams that need a break from the routine and a boost in engagement.
How to use the Team Building Truth or Dare
This template is designed for easy facilitation with a built-in guide.
Step 1: The Warm-up. Use the included slides to welcome the team, set a fun and safe tone, and explain the simple rules, including the all-important "Side Quest" option.
Step 2: Gameplay. Players take turns choosing "Truth" or "Dare" and flipping a virtual card. They then answer the prompt, perform the action, or choose a Side Quest. Encourage spontaneity and reactions from the whole group!
Step 3: The Wrap-Up. End the session with a quick debrief question to solidify connections. Optionally, hand out fun, arbitrary awards (like "Commitment to the Bit") based on the game's highlights.
Tips for success
Pre-game prep for introverts: Share the plan ahead of time with team members with social anxiety can browse the cards and understand the Side Quest, significantly lowering the barrier to entry.
Lead with energy: As the facilitator, your enthusiasm sets the room's energy. Be willing to be silly and vulnerable yourself to encourage others to follow suit.
Customize the fun: Feel free to edit the existing Truth and Dare prompts to match your team's unique culture and inside jokes.
Get ready to laugh with your team and build lasting connections!
