Purpose: Lean Coffee is a structured but agenda-less meeting format that enables participants to have focused, productive discussions around topics they choose together in real time.
Step-by-Step Process:
Topic Brainstorming: Participants write down topics they want to discuss, one per sticky note.
Topic Selection: Everyone briefly presents their topics to the group. Participants vote on the topics they are most interested in. Arrange topics in order of votes; the most-voted topics will be discussed first.
Discussion:
- Move the top-voted topic to the Discussing column.
- Set a timer (usually 5-10 minutes) for the discussion.
- Facilitate the discussion to keep it focused and on point.
Check-In: When the timer ends, do a quick poll to decide:
- Cursor on "5 more minutes" --> Continue discussing (set the timer again).
- Cursor on "Next Topic" --> Move the topic to Discussed and start on the next topic.
Repeat: Continue with the next topic in the prioritized list until time runs out or all topics are discussed.
Wrap-Up: Summarize key takeaways or actions, if any and thank everyone for their contributions and close the session.
