The PATH Canvas is a design system for building KPI frameworks that connect across teams.

Most teams build metrics systems that can't talk to each other—Product uses one framework, Marketing uses another, Operations downloads a different template. Same company, different blueprints, incompatible systems.

PATH fixes this by giving teams shared building blocks (Key Performance Drivers), a shared structure (Policy, Action, Team, Habit), and proven frameworks (OKRs, Goal Trees, 4DX, Lean Analytics) that work together.

How PATH works:

Four dimensions that embed KPIs in strategy:

Six frameworks for different challenges:

  • ROKS KPI Tree — Align strategic, tactical, operational KPIs organization-wide

  • KPI Tree — Link customer behavior to product metrics to business outcomes

  • Goal Tree — Break complex objectives into steps (Theory of Constraints)

  • OKR Tree — Track quarterly performance, cascade goals across teams

  • 4DX Tree — Drive execution with lead and lag measures

  • Lean Analytics — Run experiments, validate hypotheses, iterate

How to use this template:

  1. Set strategic foundation (Policy) — Define goal, owner, alignment, constraints

  2. Choose your framework (Action) — Pick the approach that fits your challenge

  3. Build with standard components — Use NSM, Goals, Objectives, Activities, KPIs as building blocks

  4. Assign accountability (Team) — Map who's responsible using RACI

  5. Establish review habits (Habit) — Set weekly, monthly, quarterly cycles
