A classic! The Dream Dinner Party icebreaker is a fun, interactive activity that encourages participants to share who they would invite to their ideal dinner gathering. This template provides a visual way for team members to express their personalities and interests while getting to know each other better.

Getting Started

Step 1: Access the Template

  • Open the Miro board containing the Dream Dinner Party template

  • Each participant should find an empty "Host" circle to claim as their own

Step 2: Add Your Name

  • Click on the "Host:" text in the center circle

  • Replace it with your name (e.g., "Host: Sarah" as shown in one example)

Adding Dinner Guests

Step 3: Select Your Guests

  • Think about who you would invite to your dream dinner party (living or deceased)

  • Consider historical figures, celebrities, authors, artists, or fictional characters

  • Examples from the board include:

    • Authors: J.R.R. Tolkien, Toni Morrison, Maya Angelou, Octavia E. Butler

    • Public figures: Michelle Obama, The Dalai Lama

    • Artists: Beyoncé, Rihanna, Ariana Grande

    • And many others!

Step 4: Add Guest Images

  1. Find images of your chosen guests online

  2. Upload the images to Miro

  3. Use the Mask & Crop tool to make the images into circles

  4. Place these circular images in the smaller circles surrounding your host circle

Step 5: Add Labels (Optional)

  • You can add text labels beneath or next to your guest images to identify them

  • This is especially helpful for less recognizable figures

Adding Food Items (Bonus)

Step 6: Include Your Favorite Foods

  • As a bonus activity, add images or text representing your favorite foods

  • Place these around your dinner table setup

Sharing and Discussion

Step 7: Present Your Dinner Party

  • When everyone has completed their dinner party setup, take turns presenting

  • Explain why you chose each guest and what makes them interesting to you

  • Share any connections between your guests or special meaning behind your food choices

Step 8: Group Discussion

  • Discuss common themes or surprising choices

  • Ask questions about guests you're unfamiliar with

  • Note any overlapping guest selections among team members

Tips for Success

  • Be creative! There are no wrong answers

  • If you're having trouble thinking of guests (as one participant noted), consider:

    • Characters from favorite books or movies

    • People who have influenced your field of work

    • Historical figures you've always been curious about

  • Add an "Honorable Mention" section if you have more guests than spaces

  • Feel free to add personal touches to make your dinner party unique

  • If you're new to Miro, practice using the Mask & Crop tool before starting

  • You can resize images as needed to fit within the circles
