Discovery Toolbox - Quality Rating
Kenneth Kammersgaard
What is a Quality Rating?
In order to ensure a consistent quality of the entire system, all pages will be rated according to certain criteria.
So we introduce a 1-5 star rating measure of pages, in regards to User Experience.
It does not have to be perfect, just get you on the right track!
Who is it for?
Development teams can have great benefit from using these quality ratings, it is based on UX, but can easily be used in other areas.
When can it be used?
The rating of the different pages, can be used in different situations and make it easier to agree in discussions.
It makes it very explicit, what is actually considered quality at different ratings, what is most important to the business.
When creating new user stories, it can be very helpful to decide on what kind of quality that is the aim. Is it 2-star MVP or 4 -star. It is often the reason of many discussions, that one team member is aiming at a 2-star story and another is aiming at a 5-star solution. So if it is clarified that this is the reason for the discussion, then it becomes much easier.
It can be used to get an overview of existing pages, to see which pages are most in the need of an update.
It can be used to differentiate between primary pages and secondary pages. So primary pages could aim for 4- or 5- star, where secondary pages could aim for 2- or 3-stars.
It can make it much more specific in the backlog, to move from MVP to a 4-star page. It is a great way to split stories and make it much more explicit, what is needed to move from 2-star to 3-start to 4-star, etc.
HOW TO USE YOUR QUALITY RATING?
You can start using your Quality Rating when it's finished. Try to rate one of your pages, an existing page or a sketch, it does not matter and rate it. Check what it would take to move it up one rating. Then maybe rate your entire sitemap, you will learn, it is quite easy.
