First Step Career Change Template

Want to make a change in your career? Should you stay in the same company? Should you change the industry? What roles match your career path?

This template has 5 easy steps that will help you to answer these questions putting your interests first.

Steps 1-4 can be completed one by one, or you can just write down everything what you do and then sort it into 4 categories.

Step 1

What are the things you'd like to do more?

Things you do is a very convenient concept to start analysing your career (skills are good, but harder to define and usually have broader semantics).

In this step collect all the tasks that you'd like to focus on.

Step 2

What things you'd like to do less? It's a good group for the tasks that are not in your primary focus, but are hard to avoid completely.

Step 3

What are the things you'd stop doing? This is a place for the tasks that are a part of your current role, but they make you miserable, or they are completely off your planned career path.

Step 4

What are the tasks outside your role that you'd like to try doing? This is a base for your future learning and development plan.

Step 5

No reflection works without an action plan. Conclude with up to 10 actions you need to make to move your current role to the next step in your career.
