Project Implementation Plan Timeline

This template is a structured project timeline designed to help you plan, visualise, and manage the full implementation of a project—from initial idea to final evaluation.

It combines two complementary views:

  • Timeline View 1: A high-level, phase-based overview across months

  • Timeline View 2: A detailed execution plan with tasks, owners, status, and dates

Together, they give you both strategic clarity and operational control.

What it includes

Timeline View 1 – Strategic Overview

A clean, visual timeline organised by months (January–December), showing the six core project phases:

  1. Project Initiation

  2. Planning & Design

  3. Preparation & Setup

  4. Implementation / Execution

  5. Monitoring & Adjustment

  6. Closure & Evaluation

Each phase includes:

  • A defined time period (start–end dates)

  • Space for key milestones or checkpoints

This view helps you communicate the big picture and align stakeholders quickly.

Timeline View 2 – Detailed Execution Plan

A structured breakdown of each phase into actionable tasks, including:

  • Task descriptions

  • Responsible roles (e.g. Project Manager, IT Lead)

  • Status (Not Started, In Progress, Completed)

  • Start and end dates

This view helps you manage delivery, track progress, and stay accountable.

How to use this template

1. Start with the big picture

Begin in Timeline View 1:

  • Define your project phases

  • Assign realistic date ranges

  • Identify key milestones

2. Break it down into action

Move to Timeline View 2:

  • Add tasks under each phase

  • Assign clear owners

  • Set start and end dates

  • Update status as the project progresses

3. Keep it dynamic

  • Review regularly (weekly or biweekly)

  • Adjust timelines based on real progress

  • Use it as a live project management tool—not a static plan

4. Use both views together

  • Use View 1 for presentations and stakeholder alignment

  • Use View 2 for day-to-day execution and tracking

Who this is for

  • Project managers and consultants

  • Sustainability and transformation programmes

  • Cross-functional teams managing complex projects

  • Start-ups and organisations moving from planning to execution
