X-Matrix
What
An X-Matrix is a template used in organisational improvement that concisely visualises the alignment of an organisation’s True North, Aspirations, Strategies, Tactics and Evidence on a single visual.
Why
The X-Matrix is a valuable technique to be used as part of Strategy Deployment - any form of organisational improvement in which solutions emerge from the people closest to the problem. The template enables collaboration and conversation between people to create the neccessary alignment to intent which will enable people to have autonony to take action.
How
1. Identify the content for the different elements using the top 5 frames.
True North – the orientation which informs what should be done.
Aspirations – the results that are hoped to be achieved.
Strategies – the guiding policies that enable decisions.
Tactics – the coherent actions that will be taken.
Evidence – the outcomes that will indicate progress.
2. Populate the X-Matrix frame with the above content.
3. Agree the correlations between the elements in the four corners
Move the appropriate dots to the relevant cells.
