This template provides step-by-step guidance and editable canvases for applying Outcome-Driven Innovation (ODI), an approach to Jobs to Be Done that explores how customers define success and where current solutions fall short.
Work through five stages:
Scope the job:
Define who is doing the job, what they want to accomplish and the circumstances that matter.
Map the job:
Break the job into solution-independent steps using ODI’s eight universal stages: Define, Locate, Prepare, Confirm, Execute, Monitor, Modify and Conclude.
Investigate the job:
Plan research, conduct interviews and capture evidence of how customers judge success. Copyable Miro AI prompts support discovery and transcript analysis.
Develop and prioritise outcomes:
Turn customer evidence into precise desired outcomes, organise an outcome library against the job map and use a team heatmap to focus further investig
at
ion. Guidance explains when customer surveys are needed to establish measured priorities.
Activate the opportunities:
Turn priority outcomes into briefs, explore alternatives at platform, feature or business-model level, and plan tests of customer value, feasibility and economics.
The board includes concise instructions, quality checks, facilitator prompts, AI setup guidance and illustrative Uber examples. Use it independently, with a team or in a facilitated workshop.
The board is your working environment; Mosaic Innovation’s ODI Toolkit provides the deeper guidance.
