Report

Review environmental claims before they create legal, reputational, customer, or stakeholder risk.

What it is

This template helps teams identify environmental claims that could mislead, assess the evidence and risk behind them, and agree what needs to change before publication or continued use.

Use it for product claims, campaign copy, reports, presentations, websites, packaging, supplier statements, investor communications, and public commitments.

How to use this template

Choose one claim, product, campaign, or report at a time. Add one short idea per sticky note and work through the four quadrants from left to right:

  1. Claim & audience — Record the exact wording, what it covers, who sees it, and the intended environmental benefit.

  2. Evidence & risk gaps — Identify weak, missing, outdated, unverifiable, vague, exaggerated, or out-of-context evidence.

  3. Legal & standards check — Check applicable consumer, advertising, financial, sector, environmental, certification, and internal requirements.

  4. Fix, approve & monitor — Agree whether to rewrite, qualify, remove, substantiate, pause, or approve the claim.

Finish with a clear decision, accountable owner, legal or compliance reviewer, and review date.

Who it is for

Use this template with sustainability, marketing, communications, legal, compliance, product, procurement, investor-relations, and leadership teams. Include subject specialists and evidence owners where possible.

What you’ll leave with

A clear, documented decision for each claim: Approve, Revise, Substantiate, Pause, or Withdraw—along with the evidence needed, actions, owners, approval route, and monitoring plan.

This template supports structured discussion and decision-making; seek qualified legal advice where needed.
