What it is for: OGSM is a one-page planning method. You leave with a one-page plan: one objective, a few numeric goals, three to five strategies with owners, and measures you can check during the year.
Who it helps: Leaders writing an annual or multi-year plan that must fit on one page and connect every team to the top-level direction.
When to use it
When writing an annual or multi-year plan that needs to be clear to everyone.
When an organisation has many activities and needs to group them under a few strategies.
When teams lower down need to see how their plans connect to the top-level direction.
How to use it
Agree one objective sentence describing where you are heading.
Set two to four numeric goals, each with a date.
Choose three to five strategies as clear choices about how.
Add one or two measures per strategy and name an owner for each.
Read the page top to bottom and fix any break in the logic.
Tip: Write the objective last if you are stuck. Sometimes agreeing the goals first makes the sentence easier.
