HR Strategy Canvas

Build an HR strategy the business buys into — on one page. This canvas ties every people initiative to a business goal, so your strategy reads as a strategy, not a to-do list.

What it helps you achieve. Turn business goals into a coherent HR strategy where every initiative traces to a real gap and a measurable outcome. It surfaces where your plan breaks — goals with no metric, activities that close no gap, capabilities you're missing — and gives you a shared picture to align leadership around.

Who it's for. HR, People, and L&D leaders — CHROs, CPOs, HRBPs, and People teams — especially in scale-ups and fast-growing companies translating an ambitious business strategy into a workforce that can deliver it.

How to use it.

  1. Fill in the Canvas. Start with the Core blocks, working from the business inward — begin with block 1 (business goals), then move to segments, value proposition, capabilities & gaps, activities, and metrics.

  2. Choose your build. Add the Standard blocks and pull in optional Modules depending on how much ambiguity and complexity you're facing (Core → Standard → Max).

  3. Borrow from the worked example. Use the filled-in example for inspiration as you go.

  4. Pressure-test with AI. Run the built-in prompts to map the connections, then analyze the gaps.
