Turn a messy challenge into a problem well framed, stronger ideas and practical next steps - in one focused hour.
Teams often jump from hearing a problem to discussing solutions far too quickly.
This template introduces a few useful “speed bumps”. It guides an individual or team through the core stages of the Osborn-Parnes Creative Problem Solving method: clarifying the challenge, exploring what is really happening, generating possibilities, strengthening an idea and turning it into action.
During the session using this template, participants will:
• Explore their goals, wishes or challenges
• Choose a meaningful and actionable focus using the Three I’s
• Gather and cluster relevant information
• turn the challenge into a strong “How might we…?” question
• Generate a range of possible ideas
• Strengthen a chosen idea using Pluses, Potentials, Concerns and Overcoming Concerns
• Create a practical action plan with ownership and timescales
The process can be used by one person or facilitated with a group. It isn’t intended to replace deeper CPS knowledge or skilled facilitation, but it provides a clear, practical structure that you can follow and adapt.
Stay disciplined with the time and focus on progress, not perfection.
