Business Consulting SWOT Analysis

Brief

A strategic planning framework that evaluates internal capabilities and external market conditions through four quadrants: Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. Each section includes guided prompts to facilitate comprehensive business assessment and strategic decision-making.

Who Can Use It

  • Business consultants conducting client assessments

  • Management teams planning strategic initiatives

  • Entrepreneurs evaluating business models

  • Strategic advisors facilitating planning sessions

  • Business analysts performing competitive analysis

  • Organizational leaders reviewing market positioning

How to Use It

  • Step 1: Strengths - Identify internal advantages, distinctive assets, and competitive differentiators. Answer: Where do you excel? Which assets can you leverage? How do stakeholders view your advantages?

  • Step 2: Weaknesses - Document internal limitations and gaps. Consider: Which areas need development? How do competitors outperform you? What resources are missing?

  • Step 3: Opportunities - Explore external growth potential. Examine: What market openings exist? How can you capitalize on strengths? Which trends could you exploit?

  • Step 4: Threats - Assess external risks. Analyze: What are competitors doing? Could vulnerabilities create risks? Which challenges could damage operations?

  • Support each entry with specific metrics and evidence.

Example: Bean & Brew Coffee Chain

Strengths: 60% repeat customers, 15 prime locations, 45K Instagram followers, proprietary roasting blends

Weaknesses: No mobile app, limited tech capacity (2 developers), inconsistent WiFi, no loyalty program

Opportunities: Remote work demand surge, coffee subscriptions growing 25% YoY, co-working partnerships, Gen Z sustainability focus

Threats: Competitor AI apps, 18% bean cost inflation, economic downturn, third-wave entrants, 30% delivery fees

Cheers!
