About the Mario Kart Super Circuit retrospective

Retrospectives are a powerful tool to facilitate reflection and learning within agile teams. By providing a structured framework for evaluating past sprints, this template enables teams to identify strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.

How to use the Mario Kart Super Circuit retrospective

Follow these step-by-step instructions to make the most of the Retrospective Template:

Step 1: Break the ice and choose a character

Begin by introducing the purpose of the retrospective and creating a safe and inclusive environment for open discussion. To set a positive and open tone for the retro, ask your team to select a character that best represents their assessment of the sprint or their personal performance. Take a couple of minutes to discuss, if time permits.

Step 2: Set the stage

Use the "Starting Grid" section to assess how the team felt at the start of the sprint and evaluate the effectiveness of the initial plan.

Step 3: Generate insights

In the "Hazard in the Road" and "Wrong Way" sections, identify roadblocks and areas where the team may have deviated from the intended direction. Discuss these issues openly and brainstorm potential solutions.

Step 4: Identify requirements for success

In the "Back on Track" section, discuss what your team needs to be successful or unblock progress in the next sprint based on learnings from the previous one. In "Stage Win," highlight your successes and takeaways for what to keep doing next time.

Step 5: Decide what to do

Utilize the "Power Up" and "Mystery Box" sections to explore tools, techniques, and experiments that can help address identified issues and uncertainties. Use the "Lap Times" space to discuss pacing and adjustments required to deliver results on time. Collaboratively decide on actionable steps to improve future sprints.

Step 6: Close the retrospective

Evaluate the overall session using the "Rate The Retro!" feature, placing a star at the finishing place that reflects the retrospective's Return on Time (ROT).
