The Visual Agile Coach House of Community Practice
Moving house can be both an exciting and a challenging time.
Moving House = Starting New
It can be the same when changing jobs, joining a new organisation or team.
How to Use
1. Agree what you are you starting with? A clean slate, a ‘fixer-upper’, or a new build (or a condemned building)?
2. Start at home: With your team start the design and building work – discuss what type of house you’re building
3. Grand Designs: Design your house, labelling Foundations (skills, values?), Walls (systems?), Roof (goals?)
4. Get Building: agree action plans, using SMART or OKRs to track and measure progress
5. Go Outside: label the other houses in your community, talk to the neighbours, introduce yourself, build relationships, share information – invite them in.
What is it for?
Creating a safe space from which to start your journey – like a home.
Building awareness of your environment and context (new build v a ‘doer-upper’)
Growing and nurturing relationship, from within your “home” to your “neighbourhood” and beyond
Why use it?
Lead change from strong foundations (get your own house in order first!)
Identify partners, stakeholders, build and strengthen relationships
Better understand your surroundings and context
When to use it
Starting a new job or taking over an existing team or starting up a new one.
Leading change, establishing new ways of working, a new system or culture.
Visual Agile Coaching Tips:
Start small; even a tent works, don’t let grand designs or vast building projects hold you back!
Don’t wait for perfection, open your doors before all the work is done. Fact: it will never be done.
By engaging with your community – you may receive offers of help.
Your fixed-up house, can be an inspiration to others, share your wins to inspire others.
