Collaboration without constraints: RealtimeBoard is now Miro

I’m excited to announce that as of March 6, 2019, we have a new name and brand identity: RealtimeBoard is now called Miro.

From the beginning, we have aimed to help distributed teams work as if they were sitting in the same room. Through our journey, we discovered that the whiteboard was at the center of a lot of team ceremonies—a place where people would gather around, share their ideas, express themselves and solve big challenges. We called our product RealtimeBoard—this name was direct and defined a brand-new category of collaboration tools which help teams to align around a shared vision in real time.

We’ve found that a digital, infinite, virtual whiteboarding space unlocked incredible potential for teams—and fundamentally changed how they worked. Now, over 2 million people around the world convey ideas across borders, time zones, clients, teams, and projects using a universal visual language.

Inspired by our customers—the movers and shakers of the world—we decided it was time to develop our brand into something that helps our vibrant community align around a bigger aspiration. So today, we are re-introducing ourselves as Miro. Miro symbolizes visual expression, experimentation, and work that transcended borders and impacts many.

When we started our rebranding process, we set out on a mission to find a memorable, easy to pronounce, easy to spell name that would help us to tell a story. Miro reflects the essence of our values in one word.

I love that our new brand identity (it was created in collaboration with the Dutch design agency Vruchtvlees) can inspire people on an emotional level and encourage our users to be creative, imaginative, and willing to take risks. From day one, we’ve strived to build a community of like-minded individuals rather than just ship a new feature or build a product. To us, our new name reflects all the aspects of our personality as a brand. We are both supportive and challenging—ready to act as a fencing partner for our customers and help them to push the boundaries to achieve more.

We’re excited to share our new brand identity with you—one that allows us to experiment with a wide visual range but still represents our core DNA of helping passionate teams work better together. We understand the pain—like many of you, we are distributed across 4 offices and 3 time zones. We work every day to help make teamwork easier, and we are glad you’re on this journey with us.

In the coming weeks, you’ll start to see things change, and we’ll be here to partner with you through this transition. If you’ll be at SXSW, come visit us at booth #69 where we will be showcasing our new design and providing interactive demonstrations of the product.

We hope you enjoy learning more about Miro. Please, spread the word and feel free to reach out to us on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn if you have any thoughts you’d like to share with us.
