Ideation is an enjoyable and engaging activity, characterised by the process of generating, developing, and communicating new ideas. This phase is essential in fostering creative problem-solving in innovation, and design processes.

When to Use

Ideation frequently takes place after understanding stakeholders and defining the problem. Once you know what users need and have a clear problem to solve, an ideation workshop is perfect for coming up with solutions. It's good to have an ideation workshop before you start creating models or prototypes. This lets you think of many different solutions, so you're not just stuck on one idea too early.

How to Use

In this workshop, we'll employ a structured approach to ideation through:

  1. Analogous Benchmarking: We'll start with benchmarking as a warm-up activity to stimulate thinking.

  2. Brainwriting: Then, we'll move to brainwriting, a technique to get the ideas flowing freely.

  3. Crazy 8s: Following this, we'll use Crazy 8s to expand upon ideas visually.

  4. Impact Effort Matrix: Finally, we'll apply the Impact/Effort Matrix to effectively prioritise these ideas, ensuring that we focus on the most impactful and feasible solutions.
