Hypothesis Statement

Report

Why use this?

  • To define, test, and validate an idea with users

  • To narrow down ideas

What is this used for?

A hypothesis helps you prove or disprove a design assumption using research or experiments. The results of these experiments tell you whether you are understanding your user’s behavior and how accurately you understand the potential or the pitfalls of your concept. Each hypothesis must focus on a feature.

How do I proceed?

To write a design hypothesis, start with formatting your assumption into this structure:If we [change we wish to make] we think it would help [user] solve [problem] that would result in [expected result].

Next, decide what type of feedback or research method you need to prove or disprove your hypothesis. Then, choose and execute the most appropriate test for your hypothesis.

Add the hypothesis state (yes/no), date, and any other relevant links. Repeat for any other hypothesis you want to test.
