What is this thing?

The Fishbowl Idea Swarm Template helps you to gather ideas for a Fishbowl session.

What's a fishbowl? 🐟

➡️ A conversation where the audience also acts as a participant in the panel giving answers and ideas.

➡️ Usually led by a moderator (this is many times also the facilitator) people jump in and out of the fishbowl panel virtually to help give insight into the question or challenge that's being highlighted.

➡️ Butter 🧈 makes fishbowl panels super easy by using the "queue" button to indicate your interest of hopping into the fishbowl, however feel free to use the platform you're most comfortable with!

Where do I use it?

🏁 You can use this activity as an opening exercise in a Fishbowl Session.

🎭 You can also set the stage before a workshop and use this board as a pre-session activity. Just make sure to accompany with instructions, perhaps even a short video on how to use it!

How do I use it?

1️⃣ During your session you can start by asking people to take about 3 minutes (no more than 5, you should set a quick timer with some thinkin' music!) to get their ideas down that answer the prompt you chose.

2️⃣ After that, have everyone use the starfish to vote on the top 3 ideas they want to hear about in the Fishbowl. These will be your starting points as the facilitator who moderates the fishbowl.

Pro Tips!

⏰ Make sure to allow enough time in your fishbowl for each of the top ideas to get input from a variety of participants once you start discussing.

⚙️ Customize for different numbers of participants. Currently set up for 15 participants (this is how many voting starfish are available), you can adjust this to any number by adding or removing starfish.

🔒 Remember to lock everything on your board except the sticky notes and the starfish! And don't forget to bring your starfish to the front!
