Report

This engaging activity is designed to enhance your understanding of user story writing by identifying common pitfalls and exploring effective solutions.

The phrase "step on a rake" metaphorically represents encountering unexpected challenges or negative consequences due to unforeseen issues. This exercise incorporates "spotting mistakes" and "matching solutions" to reinforce key principles of effective user story writing.

Elements:

  • 9 User Stories: Each story presents a common writing flaw.

  • Common Mistakes: A list of frequently encountered errors when crafting user stories.

  • Solutions: A list of effective strategies for addressing and rectifying these mistakes.

Goal:

For each user story, your team must:

  1. Identify at least one mistake from the provided list.

  2. Determine at least one solution from the provided list to correct the identified mistake.

Hint: Some user stories may contain multiple flaws and require multiple solutions.

Steps and Timing:

  • Game Introduction (5 minutes): Explain instructions and objectives.

  • Optional Move to Breakout Rooms (3 minutes): Divide team into 3 smaller groups for focused discussion.

  • Mistake Identification (15 minutes): Team analyzes each User Story and identifies potential mistakes.

  • Solution Identification (15 minutes): Team explores and selects appropriate solutions for the identified mistakes.

  • Answer Reveal and Discussion (10 minutes): Correct answers are revealed, and teams discuss their findings and any challenges encountered
