How to use The Change Communication Canvas
Step 1: Prepare the Team
The first step is to make sure your interdisciplinary team understands the objective of the workshop. Ensure that they are fully aware of the changes proposed and have been briefed on their roles and accountabilities
Step 2: Key objectives and outcomes
Start the workshop by aligning your team with the key objectives and outcomes of the change initiative. Collect all contributions, this will allow you to see all lenses of the initiative.
Step 3: Discuss Guiding principles.
What principles will dictate how the change communication is executed? Discuss and list these principles of engagement.
Step 4: List stakeholders
Ask the group to list all impacted stakeholders, including potentially impacted. Be sure to review this list and include the benefits of the change for each stakeholder
Step 5: Timing
When will you need to communicate? What channels will you use and at what points? Discuss how this will work within your organization.
Step 5: Urgency
What is the urgency of the initiative? Why is there urgency?
Step 6: Key Messages
There should now be enough information elicited to start developing key messages for your communications plan. List these
Step 7: Narrative Options
Discuss what change story the change messages can sit within.
