This canvas will help you frame and shape your organizational change effort.
In the Miro board you will find a blank canvas, a set of instructions in the "Notes" pane as well as an illustrative example.
We all wish for our organizations to be (and to do) better. We want to delight our customers and create a space for our people to do their best work (i.e., where they can thrive, learn and grow).
Articulating a vision for a better tomorrow, let alone defining what exactly needs to be worked on (and how) and who needs to be involved, can be challenging if not a little overwhelming. We developed this canvas as a way of helping change agents frame their thoughts and bring others along in the process.
As J.R.R. Tolkien wrote in The Lord of the Rings, “It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.”
This canvas will help keep you on the right road.
It starts with the end in mind - The canvas takes an aspirational view of the organization and roots the change journey in the question: "Where do we want to be 2-3 years from now?"
It roots the change journey in current reality - This reality includes organizational strengths and weaknesses; things that people feel proud of as well as things that continue to frustrate them. The juxtaposition of a vision with the current state builds a sense of dissatisfaction with where the organization is and propels it to find a better place.
It gets specific - "There's only one thing we need to change - everything!" Change programs have to start somewhere and having too broad a focus can be one reason the journey can be overwhelming. This canvas provides users with an opportunity to hone in on specific high-value areas to improve.
It's simple and engaging - The seven questions (with example prompts) are straightforward and get to the crux of designing a change journey. The canvas is also scalable to work with multiple stakeholders and can serve as a "living document" over time as the change journey takes shape and the organization learns more about its potential for improvement.
