What do I need?
User details
Persona, job title
Key assumptions
Before the task can begin
Task flow elements
action, decision-making, flow, additional comments, waiting state, pages
Business objective
business objective for each page in the flow
How do I prepare?
Learn about the user goals and tasks through research like:
Contextual inquiries
Interviews
Usability studies
What are the key questions answered through this template?
How is the overall flow? Is there anything missing?
Are there any dependencies?
Can we improve sequencing or remove redundancy (if any)?
What key information and other details are required at each step?
What else should I know?
Focus on creating a user's task flow and NOT a:
System's flow
Workflow analysis (focuses on how work gets done across multiple people whereas task flow focuses on a workflow for one user)
