Reflection Canvas supports us in getting from awareness to better choices.

The canvas is divided into three sections where guiding questions lead you through the reflection and thinking process. These are:

  1. Separating observations from judgements

  2. Building your emotional literacy

  3. Pausing the urge to intervene & creating different options

Possible goals:

  • Seeing new, different options to recurring challenges or patterns especially when working together with other people

  • A more versatile vocabulary for verbalizing your feelings and needs

  • More awareness for what (potentially unhelpful) stories we tell ourselves

  • Aiming for increased emotional intelligence

Who benefits the most?

  • Tech Leaders who often have huge technical skills and need to find their way to professional human & leadership skills themselves

  • Open-minded human beings who want to try out a new approach

  • All people with (even temporary) leadership responsibilities (no matter if they are formal or informal) e.g. Product Managers, People Leaders, Software & System Architects, Senior Developers

How to use it?

  1. Read the Overview and the How-to frames that describes all the details and guiding questions.

  2. Have a look at the example Reflection Canvas.

  3. Decide on your first problem, challenge or context you want to reflect on and gain new, potentially different options to tackle your challenge.

  4. Get started by working through the canvas yourself.

Most important is: get started, even though if you feel you have a "just a small case" or "barely no time". Even 10mins invested is truly valuable.
