Why use this?
To help cut through the high volume of options and possibilities
To focus on an option, based on what is most important for product success
What is this used for?
A feature value prioritization matrix is a 2D-visual that shows the relative importance of a set of items based on two weighted criteria. Use this prioritization matrix to compare ideas and features that you plan to implement. Note: A prioritization matrix can be used for different activities with varying inputs. This feature value matrix is focused on the the ideas and features identified to address the prioritized jobs/tasks/use case(s).
What you need?
Start with defining your items, criteria, and scale you will use. Items are what you are prioritizing. The criteria should always be derived from the overall goals of the project and business needs. For prioritizing different ideas, the criteria could be impact on the user or feasibility. Once you have the items and criteria, develop the scale.
How to prepare?
As a team, list down all items, each on a post-it note. Then, discuss each one individually and place them on the martix. At the end of this process, you would have 1 or 2 quadrants that needs the most focus.
