About the Product/Market Fit Template
Use the Product/Market Fit Survey Template to identify market demand and make sure that your product offering meets customer needs. Find out more about your future customers, what they want, and how you can help them overcome their challenges.
How would you describe product/market fit?
Product/market fit measures how well a product matches the market and the user’s need for that product. This combined metric looks at how customers use a product and how this fits with overall market demand.
A product/market fit analysis forces you to put the customer at the heart of your product design and innovation. You look at everything from their perspective, including your product features, usability, pricing, and more. As a result, you’ll create something that’s more likely to achieve product/market fit.
When to use the product/market fit survey
You can use the product/market fit canvas at various stages of your company’s growth. Let’s take a look at some examples.
To identify your target audience. If you want to know who you should target with your new or existing product, a product/market fit survey is a good idea. Using this framework, you’ll be able to identify where your product fits in the market and the types of people who will want to buy it.
To define your minimum viable product (MVP). Using the product/market fit framework, you can identify your minimum viable product. This is a version of a product with just enough features to be usable by early customers. It’s a chance for you to get feedback for future product development, which helps product designers refine product features and saves them time in the long run.
To create a better product or service. The goal of any product/market analysis is to create a better product or service for your customers. This model helps guide this process, allowing you to identify the best features and pricing within the competitive landscape.
How to use the Product/Market Fit Survey Template
Miro’s digital workspace is perfect for brainstorming ideas, collaborating with your team, and storing all your notes. When you’re ready to start your product/market fit analysis, follow these steps.
Step 1: Start by selecting this template. It’s free and easy to use, so you can start creating your analysis as soon as you sign up.
Step 2: Add the customer and product information. Use sticky notes to add relevant information to the template. The template itself has two columns — customer and product. For the customer column, add their pain points, information about their user experience, and anything else relevant to who they are and what they want. For the product column, outline your key features, metrics, and any other information that relates to product design.
Step 3: Collaborate with your team. With your key information in the template, you can now share it with your product team. This is a chance to collaborate with your colleagues to make sure your analysis is heading in the right direction. You might consider running a brainstorming session to work through any new ideas that arise.
Step 4: Make any changes. You might need to make changes to your template after your collaborative session. Fortunately, it’s easy to make changes with Miro. Our template is cloud-based, so you can easily change the content and structure. When the changes have been made, everyone that has access to the template will instantly be able to see it.
Step 5: Plan your product launch (if you’ve found a viable product). If your analysis shows that you’re heading in the right direction with your new or updated product, it’s time to think about how you can bring it to market. A product roadmap or a go-to-market strategy are great ways to tackle this.

Use scenario mapping to outline an intended or ideal scenario (what should happen) as well as what currently happens. If you’re trying to outline the ideal scenario, user mapping should take place very early on in a project and can help inform user stories and the product backlog. If you’re just trying to get a better sense of what currently happens, you can do user mapping when conducting user interviews or observation.
