Miro MCP for OpenAI Codex
With Miro MCP for OpenAI Codex, your Miro diagrams, specs, and decisions become live context that Codex can act on. This transforms visual intent into code that fits your architecture the first time, eliminating re-prompting loops and keeping product and engineering in sync
Now you and your teams can go from:
- Context → Code: Point Codex at a board URL with architecture maps and requirements; Codex reads this context to generate implementations aligned to your system patterns, reducing review cycles.
- Codebase → Visual Documentation: Use Codex with MCP to visualize a legacy repository as a system diagram, document, or table in Miro, speeding onboarding and de-risking refactors by revealing dependencies.
- Spec Updates ↔ Implementation: As specs evolve on the board, Codex references the updated source of truth, keeping design and implementation synchronized without manual translation.
By installing this, you connect Miro's MCP Server with OpenAI Codex's MCP Client. This will allow OpenAI Codex to read board content from the URL you provide and use it as context.
Set up
Important: If you are on an Enterprise plan, you will need to ask your Admin to enable MCP. See the Admin Guide.
First, configure in OpenAI Codex:
Option 1 — CLI (recommended):

codex login - Register the Miro MCP Server:
- Start the OAuth login:
Option 2 — config file:
- Add the following to your
~/.codex/config.tomlfile:
Restart Codex or open a new session.
Note: Codex stores MCP configuration in ~/.codex/config.toml; you can also manage servers with codex mcp commands.
Then, authenticate with Miro OAuth:
- You will be redirected to authenticate with Miro OAuth
- Select the Miro team you wish to connect to
(important: MCP will only be able to read the boards in the team you choose in this flow) - Once you've successfully completed this flow, you are ready to go
You can verify by checking your Miro MCP Server status is "Running" in OpenAI Codex.
Give it a try - Open Codex and paste a Miro board URL containing your architecture or specifications, then ask it to implement the next feature using that context.
If something isn't working, check this help article, or open a ticket with our support team.
