Miro MCP for Gemini CLI
Now you and your teams can go from:
- Miro Board → Gemini CLI Code Session: Pull specs, user flows, or architecture from a Miro board into Gemini to ground generation and refactoring, improving accuracy because the AI can cite and use your real artifacts.
- Code in Terminal → Technical Documentation: Ask Gemini to turn code modules or service boundaries into up-to-date system diagrams, docs, or tables on a designated Miro board so the team shares one visual source of truth.
- Mixed Research → Miro Doc/Diagram: Have Gemini summarize a board (stickies, images, docs) and draft a concise brief or a diagram back onto the same board, accelerating planning handoffs.
By installing this, you connect Miro's MCP Server with Gemini CLI's MCP Client. This will allow Gemini CLI to read board content from the URL you provide and use it as context.
Set up
Important: If you are on an Enterprise plan, you will need to ask your Admin to enable MCP. See the Admin Guide.
First, configure in Gemini CLI:
Gemini CLI supports adding MCP servers via settings.json or CLI command.
- Run:
gemini mcp add miro-mcp https://mcp.miro.com/
Then, authenticate with Miro OAuth:
- You will be redirected to authenticate with Miro OAuth
- Select the Miro team you wish to connect to (important: MCP will only be able to read the boards in the team you choose in this flow)
- Once you've successfully completed this flow, you are ready to go
You can verify by checking your Miro MCP Server status is "Running" in Gemini CLI.
Give it a try - Open Gemini CLI, run /mcp to verify tools are ready, then paste a Miro board URL in your prompt and ask Gemini to "summarize the board and generate a system diagram back to this board."
If something isn't working, check this help article, or open a ticket with our support team.
Tips:
During OAuth, select the exact Miro team with the boards you'll reference - MCP access is limited to the team you choose, and agents won't auto-discover boards without a full board URL in your prompt. Please note that Miro AI must be enabled to use the board summary function and Miro AI credits will be consumed for this feature.
Security & Compliance:
- OAuth 2.1 authentication with individual user credentials
- All existing Miro permissions and access controls maintained
- Enterprise-grade security standards: enterprise admins can enable or disable MCP for entire organizations or specific teams, providing granular control over data access and usage.
