About the Lean UX Canvas Template
Learn more about what the lean UX canvas template is for and when to use it:
What is Lean UX?
Lean UX is a tool that helps your team dissect and solve your business problems by hypothesis and experimentation. Unlike traditional UX, lean UX focuses more on the experience and less on the quantity of deliverables. Your team must therefore collect feedback as early in the design process as possible. So, lean UX demands closer team collaboration than traditional methods. The lean UX canvas empowers you to work in rapid, iterative cycles without giving up quality.
When to use lean UX canvas
Lean UX canvas is beneficial during project research, design, and planning—especially the discovery phase. When your team is developing a variety of projects at the same time, traditional UX methods often won’t work. You simply cannot use standard methods to deliver UX in such a short time. Luckily, lean UX helps you deliver a high-quality user experience without sacrificing efficiency.

Benefits of using lean UX canvas
Lean UX canvas gives you the big picture of what you are building, why you are building it, and for whom you are building it. You can quickly identify and fix potentially weak areas of your product and solve your business problems, creating an excellent, much improved and customer-centric product.
8 factors of lean UX canvas
The lean UX canvas is a grid that encompasses eight key elements:
Business problem
What problem is the business having that needs help?
Business outcome
What changes in user behavior will you need to see in order to know that you have solved the problem?
Users and customers
What users and customers should you prioritize?
User benefits
What goals are your users trying to achieve, or what problems are they trying to solve?
Solution ideas
List the product, features, or enhancements that help your target users achieve their desired goal.
Hypothesis
Aggregate points 2 through 5 to form a hypothesis, such as “We believe that X business outcome will be achieved if Y user attains Z benefit with A feature.”
Assumptions
What’s the most important assumption you must make for the hypothesis to be true? How will you know if your hypothesis is incorrect? What would cause the hypothesis to fall apart?
Experimentation
Brainstorm the experiments you would need to run to test your hypothesis or hypotheses.

Block Diagram Template
Works best for:
Mapping, Software Development, Diagrams
Use this template to illustrate technical systems. Blocks represent important objects in the system, and arrows demonstrate how the objects relate to each other. Perfect for engineers, workflow managers, or anyone trying to build a better process.
One Pager Template
Works best for:
Project Management
One-page project summaries are essential tools for synthesizing complex information into a clear and concise format. They offer significant benefits by enhancing team alignment. By distilling the core elements of a project or idea onto a single page, these summaries facilitate a shared understanding among team members and stakeholders. This shared understanding is crucial, especially in fast-paced environments where clarity and quick comprehension of key project aspects can dramatically improve decision-making and coordination. The structured yet flexible design of these summaries allows teams to focus on what truly matters, reducing miscommunication and increasing the efficiency of project execution.
Prune the Product Tree Template
Works best for:
Design, Desk Research, Product Management
Prune the Product Tree (also known as the product tree game or the product tree prioritization framework) is a visual tool that helps product managers organize and prioritize product feature requests. The tree represents a product roadmap and helps your team think about how to grow and shape your product or service by gamifying feedback-gathering from customers and stakeholders. A typical product tree has four symbolic features: the trunk, which represents the existing product features your team is building; the branches, each of which represents a product or system function; roots, which are technical requirements or infrastructure; and leaves, which are new ideas for product features.
Buyer Persona Template
Works best for:
Marketing, Desk Research, User Experience
You have an ideal customer: The group (or few groups) of people who will buy and love your product or service. But to reach that ideal customer, your entire team or company has to align on who that is. Buyer personas give you a simple but creative way to get that done. These semi-fictional representations of your current and potential customers can help you shape your product offering, weed out the “bad apples,” and tailor your marketing strategies for serious success.
Workflow Template
Works best for:
Project Management, Workflows
The digital world requires collaboration, and better collaboration leads to better results. A workflow is a project management tool that allows you to sketch out the various steps, resources, timeline and roles necessary to complete a project. It can be used on any multi-step project, whether it’s a business process or otherwise, and is ideal for plotting out the tangible actions you’ll need to take to achieve a goal and the order in which you need to complete those actions.
Go-to-Market Strategy Template
Works best for:
Marketing, Desk Research, Strategic Planning
It doesn’t matter how innovative or effective a new product is — if it doesn’t get noticed and adopted by the right audience, the product won’t get off the ground. That’s where your Go-to-Market Strategy comes in. It’s a single resource that houses all of your research, insights, and data, and includes your business plan, target audience, marketing approach, and sales strategy. A GTM is especially important for any startups who grow fast, have to make split-second decisions, and have to be fully in sync.
