Day 1
Nov 15
How Organizations are Using Miro to Create a Better World
Miro’s infinite whiteboard isn’t just for businesses. Countless nonprofit organizations around the world use Miro to develop and run innovative programs to serve their communities and the planet. In this session, we’ll meet a few of these organizations and see how they keep Miro at the heart of their work as they strive to solve some of the biggest challenges facing the world today. Live Voice Over language translation will be available in German, French, Spanish, Japanese, and Portuguese. Close Captioning will be in English. ASL will also be available.
Racial Inequality Needs Action. How Can Tech Help?
Recent events have driven employee demand for more corporate social responsibility (CSR) and adoption of new tech. We held a racial equity hackathon that combined these two topics. In this session, we’ll explain the practical solutions it led to and how we helped teammates adopt the tools. We’ll also look at how any org can pair CSR topics with educational opportunities to bring about change.
The 1970s Called, They Want Their Office Model Back
In this session, we’ll explore how digital nomads, virtual entrepreneurs, and global organizations are reaching through the screens to collaborate seamlessly at a distance. You’ll walk away with new ideas about what it means to be “present” at work and how to create that sense of team even when you’re virtual. Live Voice Over language translation will be available in German, French, Spanish, Japanese, and Portuguese. Close Captioning will be in English.
The IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, & Access) and Miro
Providing individuals with a variety of disabilities the ability to live a life of their choosing is critical to LeAnn Naillon and Jen Grush-Dale of LINC. Join this session to learn how they use Miro as a collaboration tool to coach their clients to achieve their professional goals by providing support and access to resources to include them as part of current, and future, developmental conversations.
The Next Rules of Distributed Work: Mindset/Skillset/Toolset
The “great reset” of modern work has created a new world of distributed teams — and a world of new challenges. In this rapid-fire session, Gary A. Bolles, author of “The Next Rules of Work,” and Chair for the Future of Work with Singularity University, shows how a “next” mindset, skillset, and toolset can empower teams to come together and solve the problems of today and tomorrow. You can find Gary’s book, “The Next Rules of Work: The Mindset, Skillset and Toolset to Lead Your Organization through Uncertainty”, on Amazon or other book stores for purchase. Live Voice Over language translation will be available in German, French, Spanish, Japanese, and Portuguese. Close Captioning will be in English.
My Day in Miro
See what happens when we take you through a typical workday — with Miro at the center. Jennifer Clark, Manager of our Miro Academy, will demonstrate how to prioritize tasks, build a deliverable for a project, and leave feedback for your team all in one tool. Find out how to achieve your professional goals while getting more from Miro — and learn a few Miro secrets along the way.
Cozy Juicy Real: Interactive Networking Experience
Join us for Cozy Juicy Real, a virtual board game experience you don’t want to miss! Cozy Juicy Real is an introvert-friendly game with a very ungame-like purpose: To kindle fun, authentic, and truly connecting interactions. You’ll get to know others in the Distributed community and possibly meet your next collaborator, client, or cofounder in the process. It’s first-come, first-served to 100 people and there’s no pre-registration — so make sure you’re on time. We’ll share the link on mirodistributed.com. See you there!
Creating Equitable Career Progression for Distributed Teams
Supporting teams in their career goals has only become more difficult with hybrid work. In this session, we’ll talk about how career frameworks lay the foundation to engaging teams and helping them perform. You’ll leave the session learning how to start your frameworks, the elements of a good career framework, and how to build a rubric. Live Voice Over language translation will be available in German, French, Spanish, Japanese, and Portuguese. Close Captioning will be in English.
Facilitation Can Get You a Seat at the Table
The word “collaboration” shows up in almost every job description. Leaders have to unite teams across cultures, manage across geographies, and gather input across practices. However, most meetings are designed around presentations – a communication tool not a collaboration tool. Jake will share three basic facilitation techniques that will transform your meetings into active collaboration spaces.
Fostering Engagement with Your ERGs
Employee Resouces Groups, like any community, use engagement to foster a sense of belonging. From icebreakers to celebrating heritage months, join Miro’s ERG leaders as they share how they leverage their online whiteboard to engage and stay connected with their members year round.
Using Tech To Supercharge your Agile Practices
Join this fireside chat with Atlassian and Miro to learn more about how you can play to the strengths of the tools in your toolbox and get the most out of them across different product development lifecycle stages and unlock the true power of cross-functional collaboration. Live Voice Over language translation will be available in German, French, Spanish, Japanese, and Portuguese. Close Captioning will be in English.
Nostalgia at Work: Building a Team’s Future By Looking Backward
According to an April 2021 Harvard Business Review article, nostalgia helps people “cope with life’s stressors, build strong relationships, find and maintain meaning in life, and become more creative and inspired.” You can harness this power with a few examples of I’ve put this into practice at Condé Nast by way of slide decks, Slack icebreakers, printed zines, and, of course, Miro. Live Voice Over language translation will be available in German, French, Spanish, Japanese, and Portuguese. Close Captioning will be in English.
Four Futures of Work
David Berthy and Tiffany Flynn from Salesforce share four distinct, but plausible futures of work that make up the Talentopia landscape as well as each future's distinct strategic implications. David and Tiffany will showcase how Miro is a useful tool for considering different future possibilities and their impact on business decisions in the present.
Helvetica the NFT
Join James Sommerville, Founder of KnownUnknown, and Bill Connolly, Community and Partnerships at Monotype, for a workshop centered on collaboration using the world’s most famous typeface. Learn about the creative process, typography in culture, and emerging technology like NFTs are driving access and community across the creative landscape. Co-create a tapestry of Helvetica-inspired designs and leave with a limited-edition goodie.
Turning “Meetings” into “Experiences”
An interactive exploration about turning “Meetings” into “Experiences” — engaging, playful, remotely inclusive sessions that people enjoy. Live Voice Over language translation will be available in German, French, Spanish, Japanese, and Portuguese. Close Captioning will be in English.
Using Miro To Grapple With the Beautiful Mess (of Product)
Behind the simplicity of a product exists a “mess” of assumptions, beliefs, and facts. Over-simplify and you’ll lose your most passionate problem solvers. Go too deep and you’ll lose the rest of the company. It’s not easy… especially when distributed. Join me as I share how Amplitude helps our customers finetune strategies using Miro. My goal is to inspire your team to tame the beautiful mess! Live Voice Over language translation will be available in German, French, Spanish, Japanese, and Portuguese. Close Captioning will be in English.
Maintaining Playfulness & Exploration for Remote Employees
Innovation and retention need a little more creativity, and a lot more play. These aspects often get lost in remote and hybrid working environments. To sustain innovation, build real, meaningful relationships, and foster a bit of connection, we’re creating new tools for teams.
Miro for Developers: Building Miro Apps & Integrations
Learn how to reduce knowledge silos, and enable collaboration and visual thinking around any content: from smart links to useful, visual frames of reference that give you the right necessary context to fuel faster decision-making through Custom Actions. Live Voice Over language translation will be available in German, French, Spanish, Japanese, and Portuguese. Close Captioning will be in English.
How Salesforce Agile Coaches Do More with Miro in Google Meet
Brent Barton, Salesforce, shares his experience on how he approaches his work as an Enterprise Agile Coach both on his own team as well as those he serves. He will showcase how the integration between Miro and the Google Workspace provides the best alternative to in-person meetings for agile workflows, and bring all relevant information from Docs, Sheets or Slides together in one place.
Why Your Brain Loves Stories: The Science of Storytelling
Join us for an interactive experience exploring scientific experiments that highlight the true power of storytelling — all on a Miro board. We’ll use videos, animations, and real-world examples to illustrate how storytelling has a unique power to influence the way we all think, feel, and act. And even you can learn how to tell stories and unlock individual and team creativity.
The Human Side of the Way We Work
How have our feelings about — and, thus, their engagement with, relationships at, and perceptions of — work shifted in recent years? In our Distributed ‘22 keynote, Paul D’Arcy, Chief Marketing Officer at Miro, unveils insights from our in-depth exploration of the evolving behavior, preferences, and priorities of today’s employees. Walk away with actionable solutions for fostering humanity in the modern workplace. Live Voice Over language translation will be available in German, French, Spanish, Japanese, and Portuguese. Close Captioning will be in English. ASL will also be available.
Day 2
Nov 16
Retro Retro
Join us as we complete a “retro”-themed retrospective on Distributed ‘22. Whether you’re a 70s, 80s, or 90s fan, you’ll be sure to have a fun time looking back on your event experience and providing insights for next year.
Live Voice Over language translation will be available in German, French, Spanish, Japanese, and Portuguese. Close Captioning will be in English.
How to Be More Interesting than Your Learner’s Inbox
How many times have you been asked over the last two years to “digitalize” learning that was previously delivered only in person? It was one of the theme songs of 2020, and many still have that tune stuck in their head. Humans want to interact — we are social creatures — and to make online learning more engaging, we need to tap into that desire. Live Voice Over language translation will be available in German, French, Spanish, Japanese, and Portuguese. Close Captioning will be in English.
Miro Improv Madness: Battle to Win!
Put your Miro genius to the test. For this special Miro Improv Madness session, you’ll create a Miro activity and battle against others in an epic quest to become the Miro Improv Champion.
What Is My Impact?
The Theory of Change template is like a roadmap for your organization. It shows you the best route to implement your vision of changes, as well as the forks in the road along the way. In this workshop, we’ll talk about what is a Theory of Change and how it helps you define objectives — internal and external — and develop the strategies to meet them.
Neighborhood Faces: Research & Government Participation
With so little time and so many problems in our communities, how do we collaborate constructively to create holistic solutions? There’s a significant disparity between a diverse and multi-skilled workforce and public systems that do not value them as stakeholders. We’ll look into this relationship and highlight organizations and individuals who are working to bridge the gap.
Moving Minds: Exploring Conversation Maps in Miro
Too many conversations in the workplace are like treadmills, endless going without getting anywhere. As trainers and facilitators, how can we use Miro to lead workshops that build better conversations? In this session, we’ll weave together three practical board-based techniques for increasing conversation salience and dialogue agency — giving them greater ability to collaboratively come unstuck. Live Voice Over language translation will be available in German, French, Spanish, Japanese, and Portuguese. Close Captioning will be in English.
Navigate Ambiguity with More Confidence & Clarity
From the global pandemic to climate change, we live in a time with constant changes, unknowns, and ambiguities. What if we could recognize, rethink, and embrace ambiguity as an opportunity to learn and grow? Let’s learn about the stories, ideas, and tools that can help us better navigate ambiguity — together.
Building Blocks for Brainstorming
Let’s explore some fundamental components and strategies for running an effective and engaging brainstorm activity. From building simple and intuitive templates, to helpful tips that keep things running smoothly, this session will cover how to set up your teammates — and yourself — for success. Live Voice Over language translation will be available in German, French, Spanish, Japanese, and Portuguese. Close Captioning will be in English.
Working Smarter Through Your Tech Stack
There’s no amount of tools that can resolve systemic collaborative inefficiencies like communication siloes, ineffective meetings, or time spent looking for information. Join leaders from Slack, Dropbox, and Miro who are thinking about how to enable all teams across an organization, and how you can best optimize your own collaboration stack to make work easier, more engaging, and innovative. Live Voice Over language translation will be available in German, French, Spanish, Japanese, and Portuguese. Close Captioning will be in English. ASL will also be available.
How Do You Communicate User Research Findings With Impact?
Are bullet points enough to create empathy, inform decisions, and inspire action? Canvases like persona maps or user journeys are a great way to summarize user research findings, but even these canvases can be filled with assumptions instead of evidence. In this session, we’ll work together to draft and create a brief story to communicate your findings with impact. Live Voice Over language translation will be available in German, French, Spanish, Japanese, and Portuguese. Close Captioning will be in English.
Forgetting The Screen Between Us
The pandemic has taught us what seemed impossible before: We can create deep connections, community, and friendships — and maybe even fall in love — online. We can be creative, solve problems, and collaborate through the screen as if we were in the same room. This magic doesn’t happen by coincidence. It requires some effort, some skills, and lots of care. In this session, we’ll explore how to forget the screen between us and transition into a world without them.
The (A)sync Game
As knowledge workers, we often ask, “Does this need to be a meeting?” When the answer is no, we are faced with the challenge of asynchronous communication. In this interactive session, we’ll play a game where we will decide and discuss how to communicate and collaborate with others at work: sync or async. You’ll also get a taste of Miro’s latest asynchronous collaboration feature: Boardtrack! Live Voice Over language translation will be available in German, French, Spanish, Japanese, and Portuguese. Close Captioning will be in English.
The Neuroscience Behind the Emotional Power of Typography
Designers know that type can impact how people feel, but how can we improve design choices with that understanding? Monotype recently partnered with applied neuroscience company Neurons to uncover the power of type. Join this session to learn how typeface choice can boost positive consumer response by up to 13%, while we explore the subconscious, emotional impact of type.
Situation Normal, Everything Must Change
This session is an exploration of how industries are changing through the medium of Wardley maps. The work is an active research project, covering diverse industries from defense to healthcare — with over 200 participants, co-ordinated through 12 Miro boards.
One Canvas, Any Content, Anytime
Join us as we showcase through real-world examples how to get an enriched collaboration experience by bridging multiple sources of content into one hub while ensuring the content always stays up to date. Learn how to bring your team together and break down barriers to knowledge through useful, relevant interactive visual frames of reference for more contextualized, faster decision making. Live Voice Over language translation will be available in German, French, Spanish, Japanese, and Portuguese. Close Captioning will be in English.
It’s first-come, first-served to 100 people and there’s no pre-registration — so make sure you’re on time. We’ll share the link on mirodistributed.com. See you there!
How to Theme Your Retros
Retros are a great tool in your delivery manager arsenal for improving quality and effectiveness, increasing team cohesion, and adding more of the human element to your role and work life. This session will cover how to theme, frame, and revitalize retros. From sports to video games to Netflix and music, you can use almost any subject matter to spice them up and drive team engagement.
Turning Complex Ideas Into Clarifying Diagrams
Join one of our customers for real-life examples of how they used Miro’s collaborative diagramming solution to boost engagement with their clients and differentiate themselves from competitors. You’ll also hear from Product Marketing how our latest mind map and diagram improvements can help teams transform complex, vague thoughts into clarifying visuals that everyone can access and understand. Live Voice Over language translation will be available in German, French, Spanish, Japanese, and Portuguese. Close Captioning will be in English.
The Power of Mental Models
Scale your ideas with Miro templates and empower the world to use your brain power. We’re going to share the importance of systemizing what we learned from mental models in Miro to scale professionally and share knowledge in an open and accessible way.
How Visualization of Work Builds High Performing Teams
In this session, we’ll learn how the use of information radiators and sharing infectious enthusiasm by walking the walls can transform the organization’s ways of working, improve underlying communication, and lay foundations for a culture to blossom. Live Voice Over language translation will be available in German, French, Spanish, Japanese, and Portuguese. Close Captioning will be in English.
Bridging the Empathy Gap to Create More Valuable Products
The approach to empathy in product development and design thinking requires a reset! Empathy is more than putting yourself in the customers’ shoes. While it begins there, designers and product teams need to take it one step further. What are some practical ways to activate empathy? In this workshop, we explore the empathy gap and ways to shrink it using a unique collaborative tool.
Creating Miro Apps & Integrations: Expanding Miro's Power
Miro is a magical tool and its developer platform lets us write our own powerful spells. From data-syncing integrations to collaborative, creative and analytical tools; come explore the vast potential of Miro apps with Refractive, a visual thinking tool consultancy that builds Miro apps and integrations full-time for Miro Marketplace and enterprise clients.
Innovation in the Modern Workplace
After several years of focusing almost solely on survival, business executives are starting to re-prioritize innovation-led growth. Derive inspiration from Varun Parmar, Head of Product, as he not only shares Miro’s recent innovations but also showcases how companies are using Miro to innovate within their own industries. Live Voice Over language translation will be available in German, French, Spanish, Japanese, and Portuguese. Close Captioning will be in English. ASL will be available.
